Today is Day 19 of the Write 31 Days writing challenge. My theme for this month is “31 Days of Healthy Choices”
Yesterday I not only woke up feeling sicker, but also to the news that Gord Downie had died. (and did not feel at all up to blogging)
For Canadians, Gord holds a special place in our collective hearts.
Gord's group, The Tragically Hip, has been around for more than 30 years. Watching them, and listening to his lyrics, is always an experience.
Last year we had the news that he had an inoperable brain tumour. What a shock that was. But then he proceeded to defy that prognosis. There was a countrywide tour and a new project, The Secret Path. He wanted to use his platform to inspire Canadians to be better than themselves.
But on Tuesday, he died, at the age of 53. What a tragic loss for us all.
He has left us a vast amount of music and poetry. He also leaves us with a philosophy for living that we all would be wise to adopt.
“First thing we’d climb a tree
And maybe then we’d talk
Or sit silently and listen to our thoughts
With illusions of someday
Casting a golden light
No dress rehearsal,
This is our life."
So, sit quietly, or gather with friends, and remember life is not a dress rehearsal. Live life to your fullest – with LOVE.
